This module kicks-off a discussion on the play “Imbisibol” by Herlyn Alegre. Through class discussion, it seeks to build upon the historical frame of the text as a dramaturgical exercise.
Guide questions for discussion:
(1) What is the setting of the play? How does this setting limit us in terms of the play’s telling and staging?
(2) Given that specific setting, what are the things you already need to consider in relation to the historical moment within which it takes place?
(3) Given this setting, what is it that you can already imagine about the characters of this play? What kinds of lives do they live? What kind of experiences do they have?
(4) There’s a particular year within which this play takes place. Why is that year important? What was happening in that context, given these characters, and that setting?
(5) Given this particular historical moment, these characters, and this setting, what do you think is this play highlighting about the relationships among the characters here?
(6) The concept of invisibility is obviously a critical part of this story. What kind of invisibility is it talking about? What brings about this invisibility?
(7) If there is the invisible, then there must be the visible: what do you think is this play saying about visibility? Who or what is visible, and what is the relationship between that which is visible and that which is invisible? ***
