History of Graphic Design: Midterm Project Brief

What is this project?

You are doing a collage for a cause given the specific context that is this country, in the time of Duterte.

How do you go about this project?

(1) Choose a cause that you support that is relevant and urgent at this point in time. This can be related to the environment, gender issues, indigenous peoples, poverty, militarization, public health, among others. But it needs to be clearly contextualized in the present socio-political climate.

(2) Be clear about your stand on this specific issue, and what it is you want to say in your work.

(3) Pick the movement you will work with, given the the aesthetics that you think will work with your chosen issue and your stand on it. Your only options are the last three movements we discussed.

(4)  Create a collage in the style of that movement. YOUR GOAL is to persuade people to support your stand on the issue.

(5) You can only use printed sources to make your collage, e.g. magazine pages, colored paper, etc. You cannot make your collage using digital means. Minimum collage size is A4.

(6) Once you’re done, talk about the issue you’ve chosen, your stand on the issue, the movement that you chose and why, and what aspects of this movement’s style and aesthetics you used for your collage. You can do this on video (five minutes maximum), or in written format (500 words maximum).

How do you submit?

Submit the photo (jpeg or png format) of your collage, with your video or written explanation, to the Big Sky Dropbox by November 6 2020, 12NN. ***
